Is that tint percent actually legal in your state?
Pick your state, the window, and the VLT percent you're considering. We check it against the statute, with the citation, the reflectivity rule and any medical exemption.
VLT is the percent of light the film plus factory glass lets through. Lower numbers are darker.
35% VLT meets Alabama's 32% minimum for front side windows.
SUVs and vans may use any darkness on back side and rear windows once front side windows exceed 32% VLT (sedans are held to 32% on all three). Film manufacturers must certify their product and an identifying sticker is required between the film and glass on each tinted window.

Questions people ask
What does VLT mean?
Visible light transmission: the percent of light that gets through the film plus the factory glass combined. A lower number is a darker tint.
Why does the windshield not have a percentage?
Most states regulate windshield tint by how many inches down from the top it can go (often above the AS-1 line), not by a darkness percentage. We show that rule instead of a VLT comparison.
Can my SUV go darker than a sedan?
In many states, yes, on the back side and rear windows once the front side windows meet the sedan limit. The notes on each result cover this when the statute specifies it.
Is a medical exemption automatic?
No. Where one exists, it typically requires a physician's statement kept in the vehicle, sometimes with a permit from the state. Check the note in your result.
